The BMW M3 Competition xDrive Touring LCI combines the practical body style of a Touring with BMW M technology. Under the bonnet lies a 3.0-litre straight-six TwinPower Turbo engine, which in the LCI version has been tuned to deliver 530 pk and 650 Nm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox with Drivelogic and the intelligent M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

The extra 20 pk compared to the pre-LCI M3 Competition Touring stems from a revised engine management calibration. The maximum torque of 650 Nm is available across a wide rev range, ensuring the six-cylinder engine maintains its strong pulling power. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3.6 seconds.

The M xDrive system actively distributes drive power across all four wheels and can also make the car respond in a more rear-wheel-drive-biased manner in various driving modes. Combined with the M-specific suspension, the active M differential and the direct steering, the M3 Touring features a chassis that is clearly tuned for dynamic driving. The LCI also brought subtle exterior and interior updates, including redesigned light units and new wheel designs. Among car enthusiasts, the G81 has now almost achieved cult status, partly because it is the first genuine M3 Touring ever produced by BMW M.

Despite its performance, the Touring remains practical. The boot capacity is 500 litres and can be expanded to 1,510 litres with the rear seats folded down. This makes the M3 Competition xDrive Touring LCI an exceptional combination of a 530 pk inline-six engine, all-wheel drive and everyday practicality, without compromising the character of a true BMW M.
